BFN Facade Improvement Program - February 8, 2010

BFN is pleased to announce the launch of the BFN Façade Improvement Grant Program. The Façade Improvement Grant Program is designed to provide commercial property owners/tenants, the incentive to invest in the continued revitalization of our Business Improvement Area (BIA) by providing financial
assistance for façade improvements to their property. The resulting benefits are increased aesthetic contribution to the overall revitalization of the BIA and increased property value.

Interested parties will be required to submit an application form which will be evaluated based on impact of improvement, and the use of local, durable, low-maintenance and eco-friendly materials when appropriate. In accordance with BFN’s “Buy Local”
campaign we will be encouraging the applicants to utilize local labour, suppliers and materials wherever possible. We also encourage applicants to consider “green products” when appropriate.

All commercial property owners / tenants who are located in the business improvement area boundaries are eligible to apply for a grant of up to 50% to a maximum of $2,000.00 for projects related to improvements to exterior architectural and decorative details, landscaping, clean up of the property, signage, painting, patio areas, exterior surfaces, windows, doors, entranceways, awnings and lighting. All projects must result in improvement the physical look of the BIA. There is a maximum of $10,000.00
budgeted for this BFN Program for 2010.

We are requesting interested BIA members to submit an

Phase 3 - Streetscape Enhancements Continue

The BFN Streetscape Plan is entering it's third phase in on ongoing effort to continuing the beautification of our central business district. BFN hired Daniel K. Glenn Ltd. to design the planters for five new locations throughout the BIA. With the completion of the designs, BFN has begun the work at two locations based on available funding. The two locations that will see the construction of decorative brick planters this fall are Peters Meat Market and part of the frontage of TG Roy's. Their planting will be done in the spring in order to ensure the plants will have time to establish themselves over the summer months.

This streetscape work was made possible through Business Fredericton North's capital expenditures, the Dave Hawkins Memorial Golf Tourney, a $1,000 Grant from Scotiabank and the 2005 Environmental Trust Fund. Dr. Jason Lilly, BFN President and T.J. Burke Fredericton North MLA officially recognized the more than $26,000 investment into Streetscape Beautification by Business Fredericton North this November.
